title : Introduction to Vandalism
But now let us define you with the real meaning of Vandalism. Vandalism is the behaviour attributed originally to the Vandals, by the Romans, in respect of culture: ruthless destruction or spoiling of anything beautiful or venerable. The term also includes criminal damage such as graffiti and defacement directed towards any property without permission of the owner.
Vandals are actually the ancient Germanic people. The term Vandalisme was coined in 1794 by Henri Grégoire, bishop of Blois, to describe the destruction of artwork following the French Revolution. The term was quickly adopted across Europe.
Here are the examples of Vandalism.
Some examples of vandalisms include dumping trash anywhere,
smashing lights, removing signs, breaking windows, cutting down trees without
permission, spraying paint anywhere and ransacking a place. Pertaining to vandalism of private
property, some countries have severe punishments like in Singapore, a person
who will be caught is liable to imprisonment for three years and in UK,
vandalism is treated as a environmental crime and may be dealt by ABSO
(Anti-Social Behavior Order)15 but for other countries, like in the
Philippines, it seems like the authorities are not aware of the crime.
